Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
The village that gave birth to Gaudenzio Ferrari
The basin at the center of which Valduggia is located is a mountain scenery, without high peaks but with a gentle flow of the gaze over the hills dominated by Monte Fenera.
The village has an important past as it was the capital of the lower valley with its own statutes; from this historical profile, it has managed to draw its own identity, further outlined by the birthplace of the painter Gaudenzio Ferrari, its geographical location, and the characteristic traits of Valduggia.
The entrepreneurial spirit, flowing from nearby Borgosesia, has also shaped the Valduggia style, affirming itself in fields of excellence such as knitwear, faucets, and bell-making, which has a distant and prestigious tradition still appreciable at the Achille Mazzola Bell Museum.
The artistic spirit inherited from Gaudenzio is expressed in the various valuable frescoes found in the ancient Church of San Giorgio, where one can admire a beautiful nativity scene by Ferrari, and in the nearby chapel of San Rocco, some frescoes, if not by Ferrari, certainly from his best school; other treasures preserved in the church are attributed to Lanino and Morazzone.
In the other beautiful church of the village, Santa Maria, one can admire works by other great artists like Cantalupi and Peracino, the latter also known for beautiful works in San Michele di Rastiglione. This is one of the many splendid hamlets that surround Valduggia, all visitable and enjoyable, such as Colma, Arlezze, Castagnola, Zuccaro, Valpiana, and Merlera. It is a range of well-distributed locations, where the relationship with nature becomes immediately closer.
