One of the classic trails in Valsesia
The Varallo - Res is a true classic of mountain running in Piedmont organized by the Alpine Group of Valsesia
Trail Running
May-September
7km
1200 m
Varallo Sesia (450 m)
Alpe Res (1419 m)
The start is in Piazza Garibaldi in Varallo Sesia and develops over a route of about 7 kilometers with a 1200 m elevation gain.
From the center of Varallo, cross the bridge over the Sesia River and pass through the Crevola hamlet. The first kilometer is entirely on asphalt: a chance to warm up the legs and build some speed before the climb. In Crevola, shortly after the Church of San Lorenzo, begins the section that features the most demanding climbs. Following the classic hiking trail to Alpe Res, you reach Alpe Casavei where the path flattens out. From there you follow the Casavei-Alpe Campo service road for a few meters and then resume the trail which continues through a stretch of woods. The finish is at the top of Alpe Res, where a beautiful panorama opens up over the underlying plain.
Safety in the mountains
Experiencing and living in the mountains requires caution, preparation, and experience. No activity, even the easiest one, should be taken for granted or improvised.
