From the massif of Monte Rosa, the Sesia flows to shape what its inhabitants call the "Val Grande", to distinguish it from the "Val Piccola", the Val Sermenza: a deep furrow that makes wide bends and narrow curves, unfolding among depressions and rock bastions. Its character is wild and at times harsh. Here, among cliffs and green valleys, are enclosed some of the most renowned places in Valsesia, works of the ingenuity of its inhabitants, techniques and mastery that culminate in art, the art that characterizes the entire Valley, starting from the Sacro Monte di Varallo and up to the Walser architectures of Alagna. History has always walked here, in the shadow of these walls, particularly remembering the Calva Wall, around which the story of Fra Dolcino unfolds, dear to the memory of the Valsesians.

The Sesia Valley is the place to experience mountain in all its forms. A network of trails winds from the chestnut and beech woods to the alpine meadows, reaching the glaciers of Monte Rosa to discover, alongside the natural beauty, also the anthropic one: numerous Art Trails. The MTB is the means by which to traverse the Valsesia Cycle-Pedestrian Path, which connects the towns of the upper Valley in a dirt route through green woods, allowing cyclists to ride while accompanied by the roar of the river. By bike also to the Alpe di Mera, which in winter transforms into a fun ski resort for the whole family and accompanies Monterosa Ski, with its facilities up to 3200 m in altitude. Water sports attract both lovers and newcomers, who practice kayaking, canyoning and rafting in the Sesia, in the cradle of fly fishing and the last bastion of the blue-finned grayling.
