Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
The Mastallone Valley "features such a variety of landscapes that it would be difficult to find in other valleys." (Don Luigi Ravelli)
To ascend the Mastallone from Varallo, where it flows into the Sesia after dividing the town in two, means entering the wide basins of the valley floor and winding through the narrow gorges where only the Ponte della Gula dares to cross the river's falls, to emerge in the green plateaus where the Alpine gems Fobello and Rimella, a village of Walser origin, are nestled. What strikes is the architecture of the towns, with tall houses, regular and dense with windows, a sign of craftsmanship and a noble past: it is in Fobello that Vincenzo Lancia, founder of the homonymous car company, was born.

From the Lago di Baranca, on the shores of which stand the ruins of Villa Aprilia, witnesses to recent history, to the enchanted castle of Cervatto, from the Fobello of the Lancia family, to the majestic church of San Michele in Rimella and the ancient church of the Beata Vergine Assunta in Cravagliana, which dominates the entire hillside of the valley with its solemnity, from the Walser houses of San Gottardo, made by the craftsmanship of stonecutters and carvers, to the endless panoramas of the Massa del Turlo and Pizzo Tracciora, the Val Mastallone is to be traveled slowly, savoring how man's ingenuity has married the harsh Alpine nature, in order to inhabit and thrive in it.
