The practice of this activity allows for a direct contact with the natural environment, appreciating the beauty of waterfalls and streams, and discovering natural pools of crystal-clear water formed among ancient rocks. The Artogna, which gives its name to the valley in which it flows, is one of the two right-bank tributaries of the Sesia. It flows in an unspoiled environment and to reach the starting point of the canyoning activity, one must ascend part of the valley along a beautiful path that runs along the stream from above. It is from this path that one can admire the fascinating Tinaccio waterfall (45 meters high), one of those encountered during the course and descended by rope.
The Artogna is a stream where you can find everything beautiful this sport offers: waterfalls, natural pools, long and adrenaline-filled toboggans carved into the rock by the millennia-old work of water. Starting from the hamlet of Otra in Campertogno, a short hike is necessary to reach the starting point of the activity.
Once in the water, after an initial section without significant elevation changes, the stream takes a constant slope, with some sections of 20-25 meters creating hidden amphitheaters for the common hiker.
The exit of the course is located at an ancient stone bridge, from which it takes a few minutes to reach the vans that return to the different centers in the area. The descent of the Artogna is a track suitable for sporty people and recommended for those who have already done canyoning.
Safety in the Mountains
Experiencing and living the mountains requires caution, preparation, and experience. No activity, even the easiest one, should be taken for granted or improvised.
