Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
At the end of the Sesia valley
Serravalle, as its name suggests, closes the Sesia valley and the neighboring Valsessera, with its extension in a wide hollow at the river level, also including the locations of Bornate, Piane and Vintebbio, which were once independent municipalities.
Its original nucleus is ancient as Naula, the location where the splendid Pieve stands, is considered the oldest testimony of a temple in the Valsesia area, mentioned as a Roman settlement since 999; the “borgofranco” of Serravalle was then founded in 1255 and is linked to many significant events in local history.
From the village, routes lead to many beautiful panoramic hikes, such as the one that leads to Pietra Groana, also a perfect climbing site for the winter season.
The village has its extreme extensions with Vintebbio, stretched along the banks of the Sesia and dominated by a large Castle from the eighth century, two churches at the bottom of the village, the Parish Church of San Giuseppe from the seventeenth century and the votive Madonna del Rosario. From the village, routes lead to many beautiful panoramic hikes, such as the one that leads to Pietra Groana, also a perfect climbing site for the winter season.
Serravalle has as its extreme territorial extension to the north the fraction of Bornate, another place of ancient origins, in a border position and therefore rich in historical references as a theater of social and political events.
An urban agglomeration that retains features of agricultural civilization and makes the village interesting and characteristic; the beautiful parish church is from the
seventeenth century and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.
