Arrive in Prato Sesia and leave the car in Piazza Europa, follow the signs for the Castle along via Libertà and then turn right onto the cobbled road that passes under a hole in the rock and leads to the district of "Prato Nuovo".
Following the path, in 15 minutes we reach the Sopramonte Castle, encountering just before on our right the Sopramonte tower, a fortification dating back to the early communal era (11th century).
On the hill, we are first welcomed by the little church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin: the first mention of which is found in 1283 in the will of Bartolomeo Tornielli, the owner of the castle.
Only the ruins of the Sopramonte Castle remain, which however give a certain charm to the area from which we can enjoy a wide view of the lower Sesia valley and the Fenera, the outcroppings of the Sesia Supervolcano and, in front of us, the majestic Monte Rosa.
