Località Alpe Vigne Superiore, 13021 Alagna Valsesia

The two huts that form the alpine pasture are located on the right bank of the Flua stream, near the rocky drop that supports the impressive lateral moraine of the Sesia-Locce glacier. The date of their construction is uncertain and there are no written records regarding it, but the position and exposure of the rich pasture suggest ancient origins, dating back to the early 1700s. In 1966, the Board of Directors of the CAI Vercelli began renovation works that were financially supported by the Barba family (in memory of Nino, long-time President of the Vercelli Section) and the Ferrero family (in memory of their son Luciano, a young mountaineer struck down by a serious illness), as well as other entities and individuals. After the renovations were completed, the Barba Ferrero refuge was inaugurated on September 1, 1968. It has 12 beds in bunk beds gathered in a single dormitory, shared bathrooms with hot showers, a bar/restaurant area and a large natural terrace for outdoor dining.
