Mushroom picking in Valsesia

The ideal environment for the growth of your favorite mushrooms

Valsesia is rich in many environments suitable for mushroom growth: in the valley bottom, seekers can move among chestnut woods and mixed forests, while in the pre-alpine and alpine areas, pure and mixed woods of fir, beech, and birch dominate, creating the ideal habitat for these delicious gifts of nature.

Throughout Valsesia, about 62 mushroom species can be found: from the most famous Porcino to lesser-known but still edible mushrooms, you will rarely return home empty-handed!

It is essential to remember that before picking and consuming mushrooms, you must be certain they are edible. Moreover, some edible mushrooms must necessarily be cooked before being consumed.

In case of doubt, it is important to know which local references exist. The mycological inspectorates are located at:

  • Borgosesia: tel. (+39) 328 1503596 Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00
  • Vercelli, tel. (+39) 335 1793034 Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00

and they are available to clear up any doubts.

To collect mushrooms, it is necessary to purchase the regional permit (collection title) and respect the limits and collection rules.

For more information on the purchase and collection rules, visit the website of the Unione Montana dei Comuni della Valsesia

By providing a copy of the payment (annual - biennial - triennial) made in favor of the Unione Montana dei Comuni della Valsesia, you will receive at their offices the booklet “The Main Mushrooms of Valsesia”, a guide to identification and all the information needed for safe practices and respecting the ecosystem in this delightful passion.
