Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
From the Dairy to the views of the Rosa
Piode derives its name from the slabs of a mineral, schist, whose quarries are located in the area, which constitute a characteristic and valuable covering "in piode" or beole, for the roofs of real Valsesiane houses.
The two sides of the village are connected by a massive, convenient three-arch bridge: interesting on both sides of the village is its architectural profile with ancient and picturesque houses that give the village center an elegant and fresh aesthetic.
A spectacular view of the Rosa from Alpe di Meggiana
Access to the village is preceded by a residential area and the Dairy of good repute with cheeses and dairy production appreciated everywhere; the Church of Santo Stefano, monumental and with a straight bell tower, traces its reconstruction to the mid-1700s on the remains of a pre-existing ancient chapel: like all the churches in Valsesia, it is another place of faith but also of exalted art with paintings by Gianoli, Peracino, a polyptych from the Gaudenzian school, an ancient altarpiece, frescoes by Orgiazzi, marbles, decorations.
Also interesting is the small church of San Giovanni in the village center.
Absolutely fascinating and unmissable is the visit to the locations surrounding the village, Piedimeggiana and Riale, with places linked to popular devotion such as the Madonna delle Pietre Grosse, an oratory erected among gigantic boulders a stone's throw from the village, or the Madonna known as “Prapola”; ascending the road you finally reach the pasture of Meggiana, in a wonderful position and a jewel of a growing alternative tourism, from which one enjoys a wide panorama of the Rosa valley.
