Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
In the Gattinarese hinterland
Lozzolo is a small village in the Gattinarese hinterland lying at the foot of the Piedmont hills. It has a deep historical past (its ancient name is Loceno) that intertwines with the sociopolitical life of the main town and is certainly not without vivid and interesting testimonies, such as the majestic castle that dominates the town and that itself qualifies the history of the village and the Lozzolese community.
The surroundings are divided between hills and woods where it is advisable to walk, cycle the paths or run amidst nature, skirting the numerous vineyards.
Its inhabited center is typical of the villages of the “bassa”, with evident rural and peasant settlements that at various points present angles between the houses and the narrow, highly suggestive streets. Not to be missed is the beautiful 17th-century parish church dedicated to St. George, patron saint of the people of Lozzolo.
The surroundings are divided between hills and woods where it is advisable to walk, cycle the paths or run amidst nature, skirting the numerous vineyards.
The visit to Lozzolo will undoubtedly include the Mazzucco, a hill on which stands a small chapel erected by the Alpini dedicated to the Madonna del Grappa and from which one can enjoy a view of the provincial territories of Vercelli and Novara and the distant alpine chain dominated by the Valsesian side of Monte Rosa.
