Hike to the Rissuolo Lakes and the Carestia Refuge

The hike to the Carestia Refuge (2201 m) in the Rissuolo Valley is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful climbs in high Valsesia. The trail winds through the wild Vogna Valley, where intact Walser hamlets are located. From the Refuge, it is possible to continue further towards the Rissuolo Lakes.

The White Lake (2333 m) is a poetic alpine lake, surrounded by mossy meadows and imposing peaks, but the real surprise is the Black Lake (2667 m): nestled between looming rocks, in the shadow of the majestic Corno Bianco (3320 m), it opens up like an unexpected and astonishing Norwegian fjord, so wild and majestic that it has no equal in Valsesia and is worth the effort to reach it.
Convenient at the beginning (from Ca di Janzo to the deviation for the Carestia Refuge), the trail then climbs steeply but well-marked to the Alpe Pile, where the refuge is located, a balcony over the valley, where the view spans from the Ospizio Sottile to Riva with a spectacular view of the winding basin of Vogna. To reach the White Lake takes an additional half hour of walking, and an hour and a half for the Black Lake. The hike can also be divided into two days with an overnight stay at the Carestia Refuge.
