Small museums of great interest
Valsesia is a land rich in culture enhanced by an intense museum activity. From the largest and most prestigious, such as the Pinacoteca and the Museo Calderini housed in the beautiful Palazzo dei musei in Varallo, to the smaller and perhaps lesser-known ones like the parish museum of Campertogno, the Gipsoteca Pietro della Vedova in Rima, with over 220 plaster works, or the Museum of Ancient Crafts in Guardabosone, where it is possible to rediscover ancient traditions of the peasant world.

Additionally, there are private collections that have reached us thanks to Valsesian benefactors such as the Museo Ercole Durio in Civiasco or the Museo Gian Battista Filippa in Rimella. Thanks to these small museums, it is possible to embark on a journey to discover masterpieces and art treasures: unique testimonies of the cultural, social, and historical life of the Valsesian territory.
One of the small museums that has managed over time to attract visitors and students from all over the world is the one that also serves as a laboratory for artificial marble in Rima, 27 km from Varallo Sesia. The laboratory has the precise aim of recovering this ancient processing technique through the construction of a group of highly qualified artisans. The processing of artificial marble is a long, delicate, and complex process: on average, it takes over ten hours to obtain a surface of just one square meter. Traditionally, a mixture of scagliola, treated with adhesives, is used as a base, which, once hardened, becomes polishable. This amalgam, to which colored pigments are added, is then spread on a composition table over a jute cloth which, once removed, creates cracks similar to those of natural marble.
