Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
From the first Neanderthal settlements to our days
From the first Neanderthal settlements to our days, the territory of Valsesia has witnessed the succession of peoples and historical events whose traces constitute a rich cultural offering for visitors attracted by the alpine views and the lush nature that make the numerous outdoor activities carried out here memorable - from hiking to mountaineering, from climbing to paragliding, from rafting to fishing, as well as many snow sports.
Cultural offering for visitors attracted by the alpine views and lush nature
The traces of the Walser culture are still visible in the villages around Alagna and in Val Vogna, and in the Ecomuseum of Valsesia - Great Walser Path, a dispersed museum that allows a journey of discovery of the magnificent masterpieces and artistic treasures preserved in the various territories inhabited by this alpine population. Valsesia is rightly also known for the extraordinary monumental complex of the Sacro Monte di Varallo, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003, consisting of 44 chapels built starting from the late 1400s AD where it is possible to admire over 4,000 frescoes and hundreds of statues (about 400), representing subjects related to the life of Jesus Christ. But the cultural offerings of Valsesia also include basilicas and sanctuaries, ruins of towers and castles, and numerous museums suitable for both families and more curious and knowledgeable visitors.
