Luoghi, attività e idee per vivere la Valsesia.
The ancient village of Val Mastallone
The territory of this municipality once encompassed the entire Mastallone valley, with Cravagliana being the capital, the most populous center, and the central parish.
According to local history, it is the oldest village in Valsesia, referred to as “Crepaliana” due to its location among the “cracks” of the looming mountains.
Geologically, its territory is split in two, a profile that is noticeable for a long stretch and makes the place unique and exclusive.
In Cravagliana, time seems to flow more slowly, giving the village, the area, and indeed this entire valley a more ancient image.
The precious parish church has played for centuries the role of vicarial epicenter, overseeing up to seventy churches and chapels in the surrounding area: architecturally elegant, it houses a wealth of significant artistic presences, including the Via Crucis by Peracino and beautiful paintings from the Gaudenzian school, along with a lovely panel by Luini; the beautifully inlaid wooden altar dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary is remarkable.
Every corner is worth seeing, photographing, and remembering those found in the hamlets on the right bank of the Mastallone, from Pianaronda to Roncaccio, Sassello, Ordovago, Meula, accessible via comfortable roads with bridges and ancient footpaths, and even further north Nosuggio, in a beautiful position open to the Mastallone, Sottonoci, Grassura, Saliceto, Voj.
Together with Fobello and Rimella, Cravagliana is a place of distinction for styles typical of Valsesia, characterized by customs, traditions, and practices.
