At the head of the Lys Glacier basin, located at 3647m on the Garstlet Glacier, Capanna Gnifetti offers 176 beds in heated rooms with 6 beds (bunk beds) and 4 dormitories with 10/15 beds. It is equipped with common services and washbasins, hot showers (1 token € 5 for approximately 4 minutes, operational only in the summer season, not in spring), electric lighting, and an emergency radio call. Capanna Gnifetti is the historic base for the most challenging climbs, for the ascent to Capanna Margherita and for high-altitude crossings. Capanna Gnifetti can be reached by a glacier hike of about 1.5 hours from the new Passo Salati-Indren lift station at 3275m, with a total elevation gain of 372m. The Passo dei Salati can be reached with the Monterosaski lifts from Alagna or Gressoney La Trinité.
