Paths rich in art

In the beautiful Val Sermenza, Boccioleto is the most important center and boasts ancient origins that in different eras have assigned the town primary roles in historical, political, and cultural fields.
The landscape of the village is dominated by the Torre delle Giavine, a slender and daring monolith of gneiss that rises one hundred meters above the inhabited area and has become the symbol of both the town and the entire valley; it is well-known for its climbing criteria, challenging for climbers of all ages with difficulties of 5th and 6th grade and is a visual attraction for anyone visiting the location.

A visit to the village will bring various pleasant impressions: the small square where the Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo stands, with beautiful architectural arches, cornices and fine stuccos, and, inside, a bright frescoed vault by Giovanni Avondo, author of the paintings of the presbytery. Other valuable works by De Dominici, the Boccioletese painter Carlo Borsetti, dell’Orgiazzi and the wonderful wooden altar by Alberti, a mountain of sculpture and architecture covered in gold.
No less interesting to see is the agile Chiesa dell’Annunciata to the north of the village with other notable works of art and the small “Gesietto”, a chapel precious for history and art, built in the 1500s near the Cavaione riverbed, which preserves paintings on the Passion of Christ from the Gaudenzio school.
And of the infinite artistic resource of Boccioleto, one could continue to discuss by recommending a visit to the fractional arch, walking along those popular Paths of Art selected by Cai di Varallo: a crown of preciousness that helps revive the more remote mountain localities.
It is the case of the Alpe Seccio, a splendid locality where the Oratorio di San Lorenzo is located, dating back to 1400 and considered the first to be built in the valley: inside, numerous frescoes make it a jewel of art.
In the other fractions, the small chapels preserve admirable works, while at Alpe Selletto one can admire the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso.
