Alpe Maccagno
Hike to Alpe Maccagno, the kingdom of Toma
Alpe Maccagno, renowned and historic alpine pasture at 2188 m, rests on a grassy plain in a wide and bright basin, embellished by two small lakes and dominated to the east by the Monte della Meia (2812 m). To the south, the homonymous pass leads to the Loo valley in Aosta Valley.

The Toma Macagn, cheese produced in this alpine pasture, is considered special and unique, having earned mentions in almost all the alpine and tourist guides in the area since the 19th century.
From the parking lot at Ca' di Janzo in Valle Vogna proceed on the asphalt road until reaching Sant'Antonio. Just past the refuge, trail number 201 begins, the ancient road to Aosta. In about an hour, you reach the hamlet Peccia and shortly after the Napoleonic Bridge. Near the bridge, there is a fork for trail number 205, a well-marked path that gently climbs through the alpine pastures. After crossing the Maccagno stream, the trail continues uphill and first reaches the Alpe Camino, where the path forks: to the right it leads towards Lake Camino, while to the left it leads to the Alpe Maccagno
